What the site is for

Prepaid vouchers and no-deposit offers are the subject. Face value gets spent down, and something sits at the bottom when the spending stops. Three questions follow from that: what the face amounts to, what wears it away, and what was out of reach from the start. Every sheet puts the three to whatever it is costing and answers them in pounds and pence.

Working that way buys comparability, which is the whole justification for it. A headline reading 150 free spins and a headline reading 100 per cent up to twenty-five pounds cannot be set against one another as written. Turned into a face, a cost and a residue, they can.

What counts as a source

One sheet of primary sources sits behind the site, and nothing but primary sources goes on it: the regulator’s own pages, a scheme’s own website, the statute as the government publishes it, an official register, and a regulator’s own policy document.

What never goes on that sheet: an operator’s own marketing, an affiliate site, a trade publication, an industry blog, a note from a law firm, and a snippet off a search page. Not one of those is citable here, even where it happens to be the only thing in existence discussing a point.

The consequence is that several things a reader might reasonably want are simply missing, and they are recorded as gaps instead of being filled in. Where no primary source states a figure, the sheet says that plainly and moves on to the next line.

What is computed and what is quoted

Four settings are declared once and then held still, and the method page names them and shows the line they feed. Holding them still is what lets one sheet be compared against another, which is the entire reason for having them. The line itself, and the point at which it stops being useful, are at how a face is priced.

A rule quoted here carries its number and, where the source prints one, its date. A figure computed here carries the inputs that produced it. Where both kinds of statement land in the same paragraph, the paragraph says which is which.

What this publisher does not do

No operator on this site gets a review, and none is handed a score or a rating out of anything whatever. An operator is named only where a fact needs an owner, from a separate sheet of register research, and never in order to attribute an offer. Nobody reading this is told that a named cashier is running a particular promotion today, because a promotion is the most perishable fact in the trade.

Nothing on these sheets describes a route around a self-exclusion register, around blocking software, or around a bank’s gambling bar. Facts that would have served only that purpose turned up during the research and were deliberately left out of it. What those tools do, and how to use them, is at staying in control.

What is not printed on this page

Who owns and operates the site, and the registered particulars of the publishing business, are not printed on this page. They can be had by asking, and the route for asking is on the contact page.

That is a choice rather than an oversight. A detail printed on a page is a detail that can go stale without anybody noticing, and a wrong company number does more harm than no company number. What can be checked here without asking anybody is the arithmetic, since every sum shows the inputs that made it.
